One of the biggest challenges with living la keto loco is you tend to have to forgo Italian cuisine. This was quite a problem for me, because I LOVE PIZZA (and calzones, and cannolis, and baked ziti, and manicotti…you get the idea). Every now and then, you just need to go for it!
When my friend suggested King’s Pizza tonight, I figured, “why not?” It had been awhile since I had indulged. I had never heard of this place, and she said they were really good.
My friend started virtuously enough with a garden salad, but then decided to get the baked ziti. Because I am not sadistic, I will not post a picture of that. Suffice it to say, it looks mouth-watering. I had other plans, though.
As I mentioned before, I happen to adore pizza. How can you go wrong with all of that gooey cheese and yummy meat? Well, since you are not allowed to eat bread with the keto diet, the perfect solution is calzones! You see, the cook is nice enough to wrap your cheesy deliciousness inside bread, so you can actually smell it!
Your non-keto dining companions may actually think you have lost your mind for ordering it. Their opinions do not change much when you then decide to dissect this decadence. I merely slice it in half, then pull it apart, like a present!
Once the offending crust has been cut back (and shared with your dining companions because it smells so good, and they think you are crazy for not eating it) you are able to dive into the good stuff. Eventually, you end with this:
So, you see, I was able to eat this amazing meal, almost forgetting that I was doing low-carb, and feel absolutely virtuous. No bloat, no problems!
Just wanted to give kudos to the wonderful staff at King’s Pizza by Italian Bistro. They were friendly, prompt, amusing, and the food was just perfect! They give large portion sizes at very affordable prices! My calzone and tea was only about $10! I was shocked! If you are in the area, I highly recommend them!
There you have it! You can eat Italian dinners on the keto diet!
